Siggraph is a major conference showcasing some of the latest innovations and research on computer graphic applications and interactive techniques. I find the latest developments in interactive techniques particularly interesting/ I think the importance of interactive techniques is frequently overlooked. The second point is the one that interested me. Unless the one is essential as for the moment everybody’s stucked with the idea of a visual interaction. Even if the feed back should be with temperature, vibration, smell, pressure, or sound or I do not know yet.

Anyway, here is a selection of video clips from the last Siggraph conference in August, 2009 in New Orleans:

SIGGRAPH 2009 Technical Papers Video Preview

This video is about the most impressive and important work that have been showed at Siggraph 2009.

Touchable Holography

This system allows the viewer to « touch » a hologram. The technology used is not revolutionary, but represents the merging of all the techniques that make this application so « touchy ».

AR Book

The AR book for Augmented Reality Book is a book that should be read with a computer. It can animate images and display things that you would not have otherwise imagined. Check it out :

MobiSpray

It seems familiar. In fact, it is. But the project is made easier to use with a « classic phone ». Now you can draw on any surfaces.

VirtualMirror

The application maps the color on any kind of surface. Here it is a T-shirt. The result is kind of impressive.

Back to the Mouth

A game where you blow the air to kill the bad guys ! Nice gameplay.

Interactive Cooking Simulator

If you want to cook, you should try this one. It helps you with the wok and you can even feel it.

GelSight

An intersting technology to scan a small surface that allows for physical interaction.

Augmented Reality Toys.v2

Here’s another AR (Augmented Reality) application. This one’s a game I whish I had when I was young.

Why am I posting this in English, you may ask : Well this morning, I woke up and I asked my self why was I publishing everything in French since many people who may be intersted in my work are native English-speakers.

I’ve been discussing interactive design with a number of professionals in the field and most of them have been English speakers. I run this blog so that the French community could get another point of view about interactive design. I hope it works.
